Nokia 9290 Communicator Arrives in
the U.S.
Finnish handset marker Nokia
said it has begun shipping the Nokia 9290 Communicator to the United
States.
The Nokia 9290 Communicator combines the functions of a PDA and
mobile phone in a compact package weighing less than 9 ounces.
This all-in-one device can be purchased through various
distribution channels, including most CompUSA locations, Nokia’s
Website, authorized resellers and systems integrators, including Cap
Gemini Ernst and Young and IBM Global Services.
Features of the 9290 Communicator
- Based on Symbian OS
- GSM wireless phone capability
- TFT active-matrix color screen
- Full PDA functions
- Java e-mail with support for attachments
- Easily integrates with enterprise solutions, including Oracle,
Citrix and Lotus
- Standard applications: word processing, spreadsheet, and a
full HTML Internet browser
- Additional applications: Macromedia Flash Player, the mobile
version of RealNetworks RealOne Player, an e-book reader and
Snake EX, a maze game
"Nokia users will have a wide range of rich mobile content
at their disposal with the inclusion of Macromedia Flash Player with
the Nokia 9290 Communicator," said Peter Meechan, vice
president, Macromedia. "Users will have the ability to take
Macromedia Flash content, applications, and services with them
wherever they go, while more than one million Macromedia Flash
developers have an entirely new channel available to market their
applications."
