Telus Mobility Launches 3G Network
in Canada
Canadian wireless carrier
Telus Mobility has launched its national next generation 1X wireless
network (CDMA2000 1X) as well as a new 1X mobile computing solution
called Velocity Wireless, which will provide Canadian companies with
faster mobile access to corporate networks and the Internet.
The wireless operator also announced that two new partners have
joined its growing roster of Data Solution Channel Partners.
Telus Mobility 1X Service
Telus Mobility 1X service is capable of Internet access speeds
as high as 144 kbps in ideal usage conditions, with typical
throughput of approximately 60 kbps. The network also offers
increased call capacity and improved battery life for 1X products.
The service is available in major urban centers across Canada,
including Vancouver, Calgary, Winnipeg, Toronto, Ottawa, and Quebec
City. Throughout the year, the service will be expanded across
Canada and into the U.S., through a roaming agreement with American
carrier Verizon Wireless.
Rate plans are based on data transmitted rather than airtime
used. Subscribers will not be charged roaming or toll fees for calls
made within Canada.
Mobile Computing with Velocity Wireless
Velocity Wireless is described as an all-in-one mobile computing
solution that offers customers using portable PCs or PDAs easy
access to the Internet, corporate networks and e-mail systems. The
Velocity Wireless kit includes the AirCard 555 wireless network card
from Sierra Wireless and Internet services, such as e-mail and Web
space through telus.net.
Data Solutions Channel Partners
Citrix Systems, Inc. and Hewlett-Packard (Canada) Ltd. are the
latest wireless vendors to join Telus’ roster of Data Solutions
Channel Partners. These two new partners will provide corporate
clients with end-to-end mobile computing solutions.
