JABRA Bluetooth Hands-free Devices Connect to PAN

IXI Mobile said it has entered into a strategic partnership with JABRA Corporation to enable its Personal Mobile Gateway (PMG) to work with JABRA’s Bluetooth hands-free devices.

The PMG, a micro router and server, that acts as a single cellular connection for a variety of Blueooth devices, including PDAs, laptops and SMS-enabled devices.

"By facilitating Bluetooth interoperability at the application level," said Amit Haller, founder and CEO of IXI Mobile, "we are blazing the trail for manufacturers, such as JABRA, to develop a variety of sleek new low-cost devices. These devices can be function-optimized, cost effective, and seamlessly connected within a Personal Area Network."

A mobile worker, for instance, could have several Bluethooth-enabled devices, such as a cellular phone, instant messaging device and a JABRA headset, all connected into a Personal Area Network, sharing a single cellular connection.

IXI said its end-to-end solution is made possible by IXI Connect, the micro-router and micro-server software that runs on the PMG, and IXI’s back-end remote management software, IXI Manage, that allows wireless operators and service providers to remotely manage the PMG and the devices that are connected to it. New applications can be downloaded or upgraded over the air using the IXI software.

MobileInfo.com’s Comments & Advisory:  Personal Mobile Gateway (PMG) is a good concept but its future acceptance will depend how popular Bluetooth becomes in various personal devices.
