AvantGo PDA Users Can Now Click to
AccuWeather.com
Now over 11 million AvantGo customers
can click to AccuWeather.com for complete local and national weather
forecasts, AccuWeather, Inc. said when announcing its partnership
with AvantGo, Inc.
AccuWeather.com Mobile offers weather forecasts designed
specifically for PDAs, featuring services that include:
- Accurate, five-day localized forecasts for 43,000 U.S. ZIP
codes
- National weather summaries
- National, regional and state satellite images and radar views,
which are updated frequently
AccuWeather.com Mobile is featured in AvantGo Mobile Internet
Service’s ‘Top Sites’ category, as well as in a drop-down menu
for users seeking sites that specialize in weather.
When asked how AccuWeather will benefit from the partnership, the
company’s founder and president Dr. Joel Myers said the AvantGo
service "will help us increase the number of visitors to
AccuWeather.com Mobile and extend our brand to the fast-growing
wireless population, many of whom are business travelers who rely
heavily on weather information."
AvantGo hopes the addition of AccuWeather.com Mobile will provide
its existing customers with added value and attract new subscribers,
said Neil Versen, vice president of sales for AvantGo’s Mobile
Marketing division.
He also foresees the "service generating incremental revenue
from mobile advertising, sponsorships and subscriptions."

MobileInfo Advisory & Comments: Weather, less frequently
and traffic, more frequently are types of information that mobile
users do need and assign some value for. Therefore, having a
brand-name service like AccuWeather that is published on all major
print media is a good value proposition that both parties will be
able to monetize in future. We think that weather will become a part
of a content package that subscribers should be able to select from
a basket and pay for. We would suggest to AvantGo to connect weather
content to a location-based personalization server that can be used
by subscribers to pull information relevant to their needs in a pull
or push mode automatically, depending on individual preferences.
This is not a major software development task.
