Columbitech Nominated for Prestigious Technology Award - Wireless VPN provider faces competition including Alcatel, Telstra, and NTT
STOCKHOLM - August 7, 2002 - Swedish software developer Columbitech has been
nominated by Total Telecom for the World Communications Award 2002, as a
finalist in the "Best Technology Foresight" category. This award will go to
the nominee showing the greatest foresight in developing or fostering the
development of a technology used in delivering communications services via
carrier networks. An award ceremony will take place September 30, 2002, at
the London Hilton Hotel.
The nominees for this year's award are known in the global marketplace for
innovative technology. For example, Columbitech Wireless VPN is unique in
its creative use of a security protocol to enable an always-on wireless
experience, even when the wireless signal temporarily drops out. The
competition Columbitech faces includes the biggest names in the wireless
industry, such as Orange, NTT, Cable & Wireless, Sprint, Belgacom, and AT&T.
"Of course, it is satisfying to be nominated together with such prominent
competition," said Pontus Bergdahl, CEO of Columbitech. "I believe this
nomination will further reinforce Columbitech's position as a leader
in groundbreaking wireless communications technology."

MobileInfo Advisory & Comments: Columbitech did
advance VPN as a method of securing wireless applications from
"end to end" perspective before others jumped on this
method. While the carriers have always relied and focused on the
airlink portion of their networks, it is not good enough from
enterprise security professional's viewpoint who must provide more
holistic security mechanism. We have followed Columbitech as a
startup and find that the founders are very knowledgeable.
