Wind River's broadband platform is announcing general availability of its Wind River Tornado for Home Gateways product with support for 802.11 through WindNet 802.1X network access control products. Based on the 802.11 wireless security standard, Tornado for Home Gateways enables digital consumer and network infrastructure equipment companies to develop and deploy small office/home office products with the utmost security. Developers are assured their network devices will be built on the world's most reliable and interoperable platform for connected devices.
Wireless local area networks - and the proliferation of WiFi (wireless fidelity) - are hot in the small home office and consumer markets, but some issues -- primarily security -- are causing concerns. Though demand is huge and growing for wireless network device access, the fact that wireless lans are in early stages makes them vulnerable to security holes. OEMs are therefore looking for the most reliable and secure 802.11 development solution to ensure the products they create meet and exceed consumer demands.
MobileInfo Advisory & Comments: SOHO (small office
