MARKET OUTLOOK & TRENDS

Wireless Gaming to See Explosive Growth, Researchers Say

They may differ on the size of the growth, but studies from several research firms all conclude that there will be dramatic growth in wireless gaming worldwide. Frost & Sullivan expects growth from $436.4 million last year to $9.34 billion by 2008. Ovum expects growth to $4.4 billion by 2006; and In-Stat/MDR sees growth of $2.8 billion by 2006. Datamonitor estimates that 200 million people in the U.S. and Europe will be playing games over wireless devices by 2005. However, many observers predict that Asia is where the wireless gaming action will be. (Source: 802.11 Planet)

MobileInfo Advisory & Comments:  There is no doubt that wireless gaming will succeed. Even the most pessimistic estimate among the quoted research companies pegs it at $2.8 billion in 2006 - a respectable figure indeed. Frost & Sullivan is too optimistic with $9.34 billion, we think.
