Nokia Debuts New Video Phone

Nokia's 3650 video phone will hit stores early next year.

Nokia today debuted the one of the first video camera phones. The new handset, called the 3650, features a large color display, ring tone composer, and numerous games. The 3650's biggest feature, a built-in camcorder, allows users to take up to 15 seconds of video images and to transmit them to other mobile devices. The phone can also download real-time video content and also comes equipped with Bluetooth access. Nokia's 3650 is expected to sell for about €450-500 and will work on five continents using GSM/GPRS technology. The new phone will not be commercially available until 2003.

MobileInfo Comments and Advisory:  Nokia's smart phones with camcorder functionality will surely arrive next year but will many consumers give up their professional camcorders for 3650 so that they can transmit the video to their friends or relatives? We have our doubts. Therefore, we expect to see slow deployment next year in Europe and USA.  It might be different in Japan.
