Axis Camera Explorer (ACE) for Pocket PC - software that remotely monitors secure areas.

Axis Communications, a global leader in the network video market, announced last week the launch of AXIS Camera Explorer (ACE) for Pocket PC, a software package that allows Pocket PC 2002 users to receive video from Axis network video equipment so that they can remotely monitor secure areas. 

ACE for Pocket PC allows users to view video while moving freely around the premises, making is functional for large offices and facilities in which employees or security guards need to be mobile while performing remote monitoring functions. It is well suited for large areas such as warehouses, shopping malls, or university campuses because employees and security personnel are constantly away from computers, making it impossible for them to view images over standard, fixed Web browsers. 

"Giving personnel the ability to remotely monitor secure areas while away from a computer greatly improves security," said Michael Engstrom, general manager for Axis Communications. "In addition, Axis network cameras and video servers are ideal for this type of application because they are flexible and sophisticated enough to support wired and wireless transmissions. With ACE for Pocket PC, Axis is continuing to show its market leadership and cutting-edge innovation." 

ACE for Pocket PC receives video over a wireless network access point (AP) and has built-in functions that alert users when they are out of range. The software automatically resumes contact with the network when the user comes back within range of the access point. In addition, it allows users to switch between preset network cameras so that the monitoring of multiple sites can be automated. Images can be scaled and rotated to fit the PDA's display area and to view various picture orientations.

MobileInfo Comments and Advisory:  This is a useful adaptation of a security monitoring application for mobile nature of security personnel. In the older implementation of a monitoring station, either you need more manpower to go on hourly rounds of the property if the control station is manned constantly. This adaptation is a good tradeoff between manpower and security needs.
