Virtual Wave, Airbiquity Offer Wireless Location-Based Services

Consumers in the U.S. and Canada can have access to roadside assistance, trip planning, reservation services, location-based directory assistance, short messaging, e-mail and turn-by-turn navigation based on the caller's GPS-pinpointed location using Virtual Wave's RoadStar GPS service. Customers use the RoadStar service by clipping on a GPS Accessory from Airbiquity to their cell phones. The accessory is compatible with over 30 different Nokia-brand phone models. The device allows users to "fix" their position via satellite with the push of a button, and send the location data over the wireless voice channel to RoadStar GPS's call center. The RoadStar GPS service is available in three packages and price levels: RoadStar Basic for $6.95 per month, RoadStar SMS for $3.95 per month, and RoadStar Deluxe for $17.95 per month.

MobileInfo Comments and Advisory:  This service will be useful to consumers without being tied to telematics service from auto manufacturers. When you are not in a car equipped with Telematics, Roadstar service is very useful.
