Zeosoft Introduces ZeoSphere Mobile Infrastructure Software Suite - P2P and P2E

Unified Software Platform Enables New Generation of On-Demand Mobile Servers to Run, Deploy, and Manage Enterprise Applications Over Networks of Handheld Devices

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. - October 16, 2002 - ZeosoftTM, a pioneer of end-to-end software infrastructure for enterprise mobility solutions, announced today the availability of its ZeoSphereTM 1.5 mobile infrastructure software suite, a groundbreaking software platform for a new generation of on-demand mobile servers capable of running, deploying, and managing enterprise applications over networks of handheld devices. Announced at the CTIA Wireless IT 2002 conference in Las Vegas, ZeoSphere is a new mobile server architecture that goes beyond the shortcomings of current enterprise architectures, providing a unified mobile server environment to better capture and distribute real time information and put it into action at the point of need.

ZeoSphere creates powerful mobile servers out of handheld devices with all the rights and privileges of an enterprise server, bringing computing authority and application control to the hands of mobile workers. The unified solution overcomes the cost and complexity of implementing a wireless enterprise solution without the need for expensive and cumbersome back-office equipment and integration.

"ZeoSphere is helping organizations transition from the traditional 'erector set' approach--requiring the integration of multiple point solutions from different vendors-to a single environment that can be deployed over a handheld network," said E. Michael Huestis, president and CTO of Zeosoft. "The solution goes beyond offerings from other vendors that rely on a centralized architecture inadequate for deploying a robust mobility strategy."

ZeoSphere generates broad-based appeal in many vertical markets. Initial customer interest for solution applications range from distributed inventory management in supply chains to field force automation and field operations in security surveillance. ZeoSphere lowers total cost of ownership for the development and deployment of wireless strategies in these various vertical markets through a standards-based environment that reduces the need for integration, maintenance, and overhead through a unified set of software tools. The software solution also speeds time to market for mobile implementations through wizards that facilitate development of applications and deployment to the enterprise.

The complete suite of available ZeoSphere 1.5 software consists of a mobile application server, as well as developer and administrative toolsets. Zeosoft offers additional components that integrate with ZeoSphere 1.5 that include a connector to J2EE compliant application servers, an integrated rules and inference engine, and enterprise decision flow products. ZeoSphere Server is an application server that is truly mobile, residing directly on mobile devices for direct device-to-device queries and application requests. This provides a true peer-to-peer as well as peer-to-enterprise computing. ZeoSphere Server's features include an end-to-end security framework and the ability to accomplish distributed, collaborative computing.

ZeoSphere Enterprise Edition is a complete application development, deployment and management environment for enterprise mobility solutions. The Enterprise Edition provides a component-based platform, built using J2EE standards and robust CORBAź distributed object technology, to develop solutions for end-to-end connectivity, from legacy systems to mobile devices. Through a comprehensive, unified environment, the Enterprise Edition reduces time, complexity, and risk of developing mobile solutions. Over-the-air deployment and support for robust mobile applications is made simple.

ZeoSphere Developer Edition is an application development environment designed for developers to build, test, and fine tune mobility applications prior to full enterprise deployment. It provides the same standards-based tools found in the Enterprise Edition, as well as a limited number of ZeoSphere Server run-time licenses for the purpose of deploying pilots and proofs of concept.

Additional products available are the ZeoSphere Enterprise Connector, allowing data sharing and processing bi-directionally between the ZeoSphere Server and leading J2EE enterprise application servers, and ZeoFusionTM Enterprise Decision Flow, a developer's framework for wireless workflow, enabling distributed processing and decision-based workflow across the enterprise.

MobileInfo Comments and Advisory: Making handheld devices may appear very attractive to some mobile architects. However, we do not like extending server to the device edge. Asset management issues are huge. There may be some applications where Zeosoft solutions may be suitable. Its P2P capability has far greater potential.
