FCC Approves MeshNetworks' Wireless Broadband Product Lines
MeshNetworks Inc. said the FCC granted regulatory approval for its Mesh Enabled Architecture(TM) (mea) mobile wireless broadband and MeshLAN(TM) Multi-Hopping 802.11 network products. With the approval, the company is able to offer the products across the U.S., it said. MeshNetworks uses frequency hopping to extend the range of Wi-Fi networks. Devices experiencing weak or lost connections to their Wi-Fi networks would seek a stronger connection by sending signals hopping across other devices until the stronger connection is found. MeshNetworks refers to the technique as peer-to-peer networking. "This milestone positions MeshNetworks as the first company that can offer low-cost, high-performance ad hoc peer-to-peer mobile broadband and 802.11 products," said MeshNetworks' Vice President of Technical Marketing, Rick Rotondo. "Our products can now move out of the trial phase and into customers' hands." mea mobile broadband products receiving certification include the IAP6300 Intelligent Access Point and MWR6300 Wireless Router. MeshLAN products approved consist of the Multi-Hopping 802.11b AP400 Access Point and WR400 Wireless Router. (Source: CNET
