1. NTT DoCoMo Introduces New Model 3G Cell Phones
In an effort to boost sales of cell phones and service for its high-speed, advanced wireless network, NTT DoCoMo is introducing three new phones geared to address the demand for longer battery life. The three new phones, from NEC Corp., Fujitsu and Matsushita, last 170 to 180 hours in standby mode before needing to be recharged. That's up from 55 to 125 hours for earlier models. The battery life is still below that of phones that run on KDDI's advanced wireless network. Those phones last up to 200 hours or more before needing to be recharged. NTT DoCoMo intends, by the end of next year, to offer phones with 300 hours of battery life. The DoCoMo 3G network now covers about 82 percent of Japan's population. (Source: Reuters)

2. Compal's GSM Smart Phone Approved for Use in the U.S.
A Windows-powered smart phone being developed by Taiwan's Compal has been approved by the FCC for use in the U.S. The phone, which runs on GSM and GPRS networks, features a Mini USB port for connections to a PC; and IrDA infrared port for synchronizing e-mail, address and organizer functions; a Secure Digital memory card slot; Windows Media and MP3 compatibility; and messaging features including short message service and MSN Messenger, in addition to conventional e-mail. 3. Fujitsu announces first Symbian 3G handset
December 2002 --- Fujitsu has announced commercial delivery of a 3G handset. This makes it the first Symbian licensee to deliver 3G phone.

4. Sony Ericsson has begun shipping its P800 camera phone, a spokesman for the mobile-phone maker said Wednesday, after several months delay.

5. Fujitsu and NTT DoCoMo today said that Fujitsu has begun shipping Symbian-based camera phones for DoCoMo's 3G FOMA service. The phone, called the DoCoMo FOMA F2051, is the first Symbian-based model to be launched in Japan as well as the first Symbian 3G handset. The phone features a digital camera as well as full email and Web access. The F2051 also features photo editing (including photo cropping as well as cutting and pasting) and 170 hours of battery stand-by time.
DoCoMo also announced two other new smart phones, which will be released between the end of this month and the start of next year. All three new phones will use DoCoMo's new picture messaging service, called i-motion. The other two models, the N2051 and P2102V, are color handsets with full email and Web access, but do not use the Symbian OS. The N2051 is a similar model to the F2051, and also includes a camera, but does not include the F2051's photo editing abilities. The other model, P2102V, is also a camera phone and includes SD Memory Card compatibility and also supports videoconferencing.
