iAnywhere Solutions Tops Mobile
Database Market
DUBLIN, Calif. - December 17, 2002 - iAnywhere Solutions, Inc., a subsidiary
of Sybase, Inc. (NYSE: SY), today announced that it leads the mobile
database market for the sixth year in a row, with overv70% market share. The company's SQL Anywhere
Studio powers mobile, remote, embedded and workgroup database solutions
across a range of industries including field service, transportation,
retail, utilities, financial services, healthcare and government.
Mobile DBMS giant Sybase was able to increase its share of the market from
68 percent in 2000 to 73 percent in 2001. As the global economy slowly pulls
out of recession, the mobile DBMS market is expected to pick up fairly
rapidly. Gartner is predicting a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of over
16 percent through 2006. This will cause the market to more than double,
from slightly under $70 million in 2001 to around $150 million in 2006.
"We are proud to be recognized as the long-standing mobile database market
leader," said Terry Stepien, president, iAnywhere Solutions. "With more than
ten years experience, iAnywhere Solutions has built a strong base of over
seven million deployed seats of our technology. Also key to our success are
our strong relationships with the seven hundred application partners who
embed SQL Anywhere Studio within their solutions."
About SQL Anywhere Studio
SQL Anywhere Studio is the market leading data management and enterprise
synchronization solution for mobile, remote, embedded and workgroup environments. SQL Anywhere Studio enables the rapid
development and deployment of distributed e-Business solutions - extending the reach of
enterprise information to anywhere business transactions occur.
MobileInfo Comments and Advisory: iAnywhere
has done well in mobile database space with seven million seats but
this will be eclipsed if it does not succeed in the mobile
development platform space. iAnywhere has the potential to grow into
a bigger player there but bigger players like IBM and Oracle are not
letting that market go away from their hold. Sybase is better off in
going after the medium size enterprises who want to mobilize. Its
recent acquisition of AvantGo will help it in getting more
well-known among mobile enterprise customers. We shall be watching
how it can integrate and exploit industry-specific AvantGo solutions
into its own products.
