J-Phone Sha-mail Claims 9 Million
Users
According to the carrier's latest numbers, J-Phone now claims 9 million subscribers on its Sha-mail picture messaging service, a figure that represents 65 percent of J-Phone's total subscriber base. J-Phone launched its Sha-mail service in June 2001 and since then it has become the latest mobile data success story, surpassing DoCoMo's i-mode in terms of growth and hype. The growth of Sha-mail has triggered the current trend towards picture messaging and camera phones, with carriers and handset makers scrambling to sell camera phones and MMS services. J-Phone currently claims the largest number of camera phones of any carrier with 24 models.

MobileInfo Comments and Advisory: Looks
like Japanese cellular users do like the idea of picture messaging.
This should be a good sign for MMS. As compared to our Japanese
brothers, North Americans and Europeans are laggards.
