LocatioNet Releases LBS Application Suite - LocatioNet MyMap
Mobile Location Services Congress, Amsterdam, the Netherlands - May 6, 2003
LocatioNet, the developer of a comprehensive location-based service system for the wireless market, announced today the release of LocatioNet MyMap - a first to market integrated suite of graphical location-based service (LBS) application modules. MyMap allows users to view their own location, find and navigate to points of interest, and interact with friends in their immediate vicinity. The application focuses on rich user interface and graphic display, showing users location and retrieved information over detailed color maps and aerial photos.
MyMap takes full advantage of the latest mass-market 2.5 and 3G handsets with their large color displays, J2ME, WAP, and MMS support. The WAP version provides a universal commonly supported interface, while the J2ME version offers enhanced usability with Java enabled features such as context-sensitive soft keys, the use of a joystick to scroll maps, and built-in menus.
MyMap's service modules are well integrated. For example, a user can locate his or her friend, search for points of interest in the vicinity of that friend, and receive the optimal route to such points. Mobile users can also share such location information visually, by sending MMS messages containing color maps with retrieved items to their friends and family from within the MyMap application suite.
Commenting on their latest development, LocatioNet's VP marketing and sales, Mr. Arnon Dembo said, "As wireless operators are looking for effective ways to drive up migration to the newest handsets and encourage the use of advanced capabilities such as MMS, Java and GPRS, our latest application suite helps operators by leveraging these technologies to provide a very attractive user experience as a strong drive to the latest network capabilities and handsets."
LocatioNet MyMap uses the LocatioNet Platform technology for privacy, authentication, authorization, billing, positioning, and content. It also relies on the LocatioNet GIS engine for map rendering, geo-coding, reverse geo-coding and routing.
