13. esmertec Secures €23 Million (USD27m) In Third Round of Financing
Mobile Java Solutions Leader Secures Largest Venture Capital Investment for a European Software Company in last 15 Months London, UK - 13 November, 2003 - esmertec, the leading provider of Java™ solutions for mobile multimedia phones and embedded devices, announces today the successful closing of its third round of financing of 23 million Euros. This represents the largest amount of private equity funding secured by a software company in Europe for over 15 months, and marks a significant upturn of investor confidence in technology companies.

INVESTORS: Earlybird Venture Capital, Partners Group and Sofinnova Partners led the investment round, which was oversubscribed. The lead investors are now joined by BV Group Private Equity Berne, Quilvest Group, Rothschild Gestion, Invision AG, and Credit Lyonnais Private Equity Paris.

MobileInfo Comments and Advisory: A very good period for VC investments. Interestingly, European investors are slowly taking over the leadership from the Silicon Valley. Wireless collaboration is an interesting area - see Pointshot. Intellidot in healthcare is interesting.
