DaimlerChrysler
Selects Extended Systems' XTNDConnect Server for Server-Based Data
Management and Synchronization
Boise, IDAHO -- (July 13, 2000) - Extended Systems GmbH, a wholly
owned subsidiary of Boise-based Extended Systems, has announced that
the automobile development division of DaimlerChrysler AB in
Sindelfingen, Germany has purchased a user license for the company's
data management andsynchronization product, XTNDConnect Server.
The product will provide employees with secure, remote and wireless
data access to DaimlerChrysler's Lotus/Domino and Microsoft Exchange
groupware servers, via handheld devices including Palm, Windows CE and
EPOC. Also accessible from the devices will be the company's database
management system. The product will initially be rolled out to 500
users with plans to
increase usage over the next several months.
XTNDConnect Server is a solution for integrating handheld devices into
the business enterprise. It provides synchronization of e-mail,
contacts, calendar, tasks and other data between handheld devices and
corporate servers. It also features full data management and
synchronization
capabilities with custom ODBC-compliant databases, such as Microsoft
SQL, Sybase, Oracle, and Extended Systems' Advantage Database Server.
"We have deployed PalmOS, EPOC32 and Windows CE mobile
devices," said Georg Patzek, project manager for the
Mercedes-Benz Technology Center (TOS/PEP) at DaimlerChrysler AG in
Sindelfingen. "And, due to the recent Daimler/Chrysler fusion, we
are currently in the process of changing ourGroupware System from
Microsoft Exchange to Lotus Notes. An important criteria for reaching
the decision to implement XTNDConnect Server, besides ease of
installation and administration, is the platform-independence of the
product. That was a clear advantage."
