March 19, 2001 - Pumatech Empowers Professionals to Take Charge of Personal and Business
Information With Debut of Intellisync.com (SM) Service
Offerings Include Web-Based Synchronization, Online/Offline Web Browsing for Handhelds, and Notification When Relevant Web Information Changes
Site Free to Users During Initial Launch Period
SAN JOSE, Calif., March 19 -- Pumatech, Inc. (Nasdaq: PUMA), a provider of software infrastructure for the mobile Internet, today announced
the public availability of its Intellisync.com service that will enable anyone
with an office and home personal computer, a notebook PC, a PDA or a Web-enabled cellular phone to obtain the most current contact,
calendar, and email information that is specific to their needs, precisely when and where it's required. With Intellisync.com, users can
synchronize important information via the Internet, browse Web content both on and offline
with their handheld devices, and be notified of changes to highly relevant Web
information via their PC or mobile device. Intellisync.com has the potential to change the way people
access Web-based information, define a broad new role for synchronization, and
bring an entire new suite of valuable services to the Internet.
Pumatech is
offering Intellisync.com's capabilities free of charge during the initial introductory period. In late Spring 2001, Intellisync.com will convert to a
subscription model and users will be offered numerous subscription-based service options. The service is available at
www.intellisync.com. To bring order to a fast-paced world where multiple PCs, Web-enabled
cellular phones, and handheld organizers are as common as rescheduled meetings
or modified travel plans, Intellisync.com enables professionals to keep their
business world in complete synchronization with their personal lives. For example, a businessman synchronizes his office PC calendar with his home
calendar every week to ensure that he doesn't forget his child's school conferences and vacation schedule. Furthermore, while traveling to work on
the train every day, he browses the Web to view his favorite news sites so he
is kept abreast of key industry information. When he arrives at work, he is
then notified via email on his office PC of any changes in the stock prices in
his portfolio and he can immediately speak with his broker to determine if he
wants to sell any shares. "One of the biggest challenges people face is keeping all aspects of their
business day or personal life up to date via the same devices that are supposed to make life easier. Personal computers, cell phones, PDAs, pagers
are all useful tools, but only if you can keep your information current and maximize the ability to gain the most up-to-date information from the Web,"
said J. Gerry Purdy, Ph.D., president and CEO of Mobile Insights. "With the
increasing demands of PDA owners from being able to synchronize key contact from any location to being able to access Web content both on and offline,
there has not been a solution that worked well with today's on-the-go lifestyles and information resources. Just as Pumatech helped shape the
mobile computing landscape in 1996 with the introduction of the synchronization concept and its debut of the retail product Intellisync, the
company has again broken new ground with its debut of Intellisync.com and host
of new services."
Pumatech Breaks New Ground With Intellisync.com Intellisync.com is comprised of three key services: Sync-it, Browse-it
and Mind-it.
Sync-it: enables users to perform true, multi-point, Web-based synchronization of calendar, email
contacts and tasks between their Palm OS(R) handheld and home PC or work PC, using a network, dial-up, or wireless
connection to the Internet. No matter where personal information resides, the
Sync-it(TM) service brings it all together so that users have access whenever
and wherever they need it. Pumatech understands the business of synchronization, having been the first to introduce a
multi-patented synchronization solution in 1996 and, soon thereafter, established
Intellisync(R) software as the de facto synchronization standard.
Browse-it: allows users to view the entire Web in real time or offline by
taking unique Browse-it(TM) Snapshots. Users can simply capture Web pages, download them to a Palm OS handheld device, and view the content at their own
convenience. Browse-it was designed with the user experience in mind and employs the look and feel of desktop browsers, offering features such as
8- and 16-bit color support, bookmarks, the ability to track browser history,
and support for cookies, standard graphic formats, encryption for security, compressed archives, and downloading and installation of native programs and
data.
Mind-it: acts as a personal tracking and alert system. Users specify the
Web information they want to track -- from stock price limits to competitor news, from airline schedules to sports scores -- and the
Mind-it(TM) service notifies them via e-mail or mobile device when that information changes. With
Mind-it's "Mobile My Page," users can see a "digital dashboard" of all the information they're tracking.
Intellisync.com to Showcase MAP
Intellisync.com is also a showcase of capabilities that Pumatech is currently licensing to carriers, e-businesses, portals and enterprises such as
CNET, Lycos, eBay and Boeing through its Mobile Application Platform (MAP).
MAP is the common server platform on which Pumatech is building its new mobile
solutions. MAP is designed for maximum scalability and performance, provides
ubiquitous access to mobile devices over both wired and wireless media, and does not require the PC to act as a gateway to the network.
