ClaimsAgentTM2.0
Executive Overview
Wireless, hand-held, mobile computing
is here! This technology benefits commercial and governmental sectors with
increased efficiency and mobility. For insurance property claims adjusters,
ClaimsAgentTM, as part of the Adjuster’s Attaché integrated
solution set, delivers maximum reliability and speed for processing claims
using a comprehensive software package installed onto a hand-held, pocketPC.
Easy claim data entry, an onboard estimation database, wireless Internet
connectivity, and automatic estimation software are among the features to
aid the adjuster in increasing productivity. As a result, adjusters can
provide more accurate estimates to better serve the insured, and immediately
file reports securely with their carrier via the Internet. Before the
adjuster leaves the property, the claim is complete, eliminating the costly
and wasteful time of returning to the office to write the report.
ClaimsAgentTM provides the following functions:
- Complete Property Claim Automation
- Onboard Loss Estimate Data
- Accurate Claims Calculations
- Infrared Portable Printing Capability
- Wireless Report Transmission
- Enterprise Data Integration
Introduction
The advances in hand-held computing
devices which take advantage of wireless Internet connections hold great
rewards for the insurance industry. As the industry becomes more competitive
after the passing of the Financial Services Modernization Act, companies
will need to implement progressive technologies to streamline operational
costs and, at the same time, increase productivity and turn around time for
claims.
Currently, laptop computers generate property loss reports from sites.
The introduction of the PocketPC and ClaimsAgentTM solution
renders that mode of recording information obsolete. Convenience, mobility
and speed are key motivations to adopt the hand-held tool. ClaimsAgentTM
features a formidable arsenal of utilities including: pen-based entry,
real-time estimates, renovation and insurance repair cost database, data
encryption, infrared printing, Internet connectivity, XML business data
exchange, digital camera integration and instant uploading to back-end
claims processing systems. These utilities work in concert to insure the
timely and accurate dissemination of facts for both insurance agency and
insured.
In the field, with the hand-held PocketPC, the adjuster is free to scope
and estimate the loss, while documenting claim sites without the concern of
balancing unwieldy laptops, and the hassle of their long boot-up times and
all too short battery lives. This enhanced mobility eliminates costly,
inefficient processes of inputting information after an interview, or
potentially having to return to the site to verify details missed during the
initial claim process. The ClaimsAgentTM solution also guarantees
the rapid delivery of a settlement by completing the claim in the field,
complete with digital photos, and submitting it to the back-end claims
processing system over a secured wireless Internet connection. These
advances ensure greater accuracy in processing claims for the insurance
carrier, and increased productivity for individual adjusters, freeing them
to handle more claims in the same amount of time.
Benefits
The lightweight and convenient
properties of wireless hand held computing systems make them essential tools
for those businesses looking to increase productivity and streamline
operation costs. Incorporating this technology into an agency’s or carrier’s
operating plan creates the advantage of instantaneous transmission of data
and pictures for automatic integration into a corporate enterprise.
ClaimsAgentTM reduces claim processing time and cost for the
adjuster. This integrated software solution completes the report on site at
the property – eliminating the need to go back to the office and produce a
report – freeing the adjuster to handle more claims per day, more
accurately and efficiently.
A carrier depends on automation and speed during the claims process. To
realize this necessity, a modern claims processing system employs web-based
software components: Java Servlet, XML (eXtensible Markup Language) and EJB
(Enterprise Java Beans) technologies, all of which can be easily used to
process a report generated by ClaimsAgentTM. Once the carrier
receives the claim report, the carrier processes the report immediately for
secure viewing on the Internet or Corporate Intranet upon request. EigenSoft,
Inc. provides simple templates for viewing the report on a web browser.

Using ClaimsAgentTM
The following represents an adjuster’s claims process scenario:
- The Insurance company or carrier receives a call or notice from the
insured concerning a claim.
- The carrier records the claim, generates a property loss notice and
e-mails it to the designated adjuster.
- The adjuster connects to the Internet and retrieves e-mail(s)/notice
using the mobile device and wireless modem, then terminates the Internet
connection.
- The adjuster runs the ClaimsAgentTM software and opens one
of the e-mailed property loss notice files containing the initial claim
summary data, (Insured info, location, type of loss, etc.), which is
automatically entered into the appropriate ClaimsAgentTM loss
report fields.
- The adjuster completes the remaining property loss information
on-site, while inspecting the property. They enter relevant claim
information into the ClaimsAgentTM including detailed loss
estimate information.
- For the data the adjuster enters, ClaimsAgentTM
automatically calculates the total estimate.
- Photographs may be included with the adjuster’s report, using the
digital camera to transfer images to the ClaimsAgentTM
application via a standard CF storage card (an infrared transfer is
planned for future release)
- Once the adjuster has reviewed the loss information and is satisfied
with the report, a paper copy of the estimate and any applicable forms
are printed using a portable infrared printer. The claimant receives a
copy of the report.
- Finally, to transfer the claim report to the carrier, a wireless modem
reestablishes an Internet connection. Using ClaimsAgentTM,
the adjuster transfers the complete report to the carrier, to finish the
process.
- The adjuster uses the mobile device to review the next claim, check
their e-mail, or whatever application aids them in the efficient
execution of their daily professional activities.
Notes:
- Once a combination Type II PCMCIA and CF
card jacket becomes available for the iPAQ, the need to use the CF
adapter during the field adjuster claim process would be eliminated.
- Wireless Internet access availability and
technologies are constantly changing. Accordingly, this functionality is
determined by individual customer/geographic requirements.
- EigenSoft, Inc. is available to provide
complete customer back-end claims data integration with existing
enterprise systems.
