Technology Designed to Transform Customer Service Capabilities
New
York, NY, January 8, 2001 - Baobab Technologies, a developer of a true
natural language understanding system, announces closure of a $2.5 million
round of seed funding, lead by Yazam, a NY-based investment firm. Big Sky
Partners managed by Michael Schwab, and Intel Capital also participated in
this round of financing.
The
company will use the $2.5 million equity investment to continue research and
development, promote beta testing with several large corporations and
further develop its internal and global infrastructure. Baobab, which
will be headquartered in New York, NY with research and development
facilities in Israel, is developing Baobab Frontware(tm), a multi-input
(Voice, Browsers, SMS, WAP, etc.) software solution that enables standard,
conversational, natural interface between customers and companies.
Rather
than being asked to follow complex menus and adjust to multiple and
difficult interfaces, consumers can issue intuitive and natural commands or
queries. With Baobab Frontware(tm) technology, client systems can
react by carrying out directions, conduct a mixed-initiatives dialogue and
execute business transactions.
"Our
approach adapts to consumer needs and behavior patterns rather than forcing
consumers to adapt to the needs of computers. Just as GUI (Graphical
User Interface) was perceived as the interface of the 90s, we believe that
NUI (Natural User Interface) is the one to dominate this decade, " says
Jacob Vind, Baobab's CEO. "This new mode of interaction between
businesses and their customers will improve the quality of the consumer's
service, experience and satisfaction while enabling companies to reduce
their customer service costs." "In Baobab, we see the
ability to capitalize on several significant trends
including
the growth in customer relationship management (CRM) and customer service
center expenditures, which are growing at double digit rates, and combined,
are expected to exceed $75 billion by 2003," said Bernie Siegel,
Interim CEO of Yazam, the lead investor in the transaction.
