Wireless Application Service Providers - WASP
Resources
At the time of publication, we found a number of articles written on the
Wireless ASP market, each with their own perspective. Thus looking for unbiased,
in-depth material was a challenge. There are two studies, however, one published
by IDC and another by Cahners In-Stat Group, that are worth investigating.
IDC: "Wireless ASPS – Who Is, Who isn’t, Who wants to be"
The study contains profiles of more than 45 WASP companies, defines what a
wireless ASP is, and provides a revenue forecast broken down by three segments:
personal, collaborative, and enterprise. In addition, it provides a leadership
grid that compares the companies in each of the three segments.

Cahners In-Stat Group: "W-ASPs: Enabling M-Services and
Wireless Internet Applications"
The study by Cahners In-Stat Group found that nearly seven percent of mobile
workers today use mobile phones, but less than four percent wirelessly access
e-mail or corporate intranets. Based on such findings, the authors of the report
predict that WASPs will boost the number of wireless Internet subscribers as
they help companies streamline and simplify the delivery of wireless
applications.
