i-Mode

i-mode Compatible Handsets

Compatible i-mode handsets have been instrumental to the growth of the service. By working with leading phone manufacturers such as Matsushita Communications (Panasonic), Fujitsu, and NEC to design handsets that are user-friendly and aesthetically appealing. All phones carry the i-mode brand and, as a consequence, have become synonymous with the DoCoMo service.

Overview of features:

  • Large screens ranging from 8 x 6 to 10 x 10.
  • Display screen support 4-tone grayscale or 256 colors.
  • Screen support over 200 characters.
  • Light weight (under 100 grams).
  • Excellent sound quality.
  • Transmit data at a speed of 9.6 kbps (adequate for e-mail, up to 500 bytes, and I-mode sites which are text based and 1.2 k in size).
  • Easy-to-use interface.
  • Built-in browser and messenger.
  • Navigate i-mode Web sites using a combination of four buttons:
  • CURSOR FORWARD
  • CURSOR BACKWARD
  • PAGE FORWARD
  • SELECT AND BACK, returning to previous page
  • Future handsets will be Java-enabled, boosting security for m-commerce transactions.
  • DoCoMo recently introduced the Sigmarion Handheld PC, featuring the latest in graphic performance with a 6.2-inch DTN LCD display, introducing 640 x 240 pixel resolution and 65,000 colors. The screen makes it easy for reading and creating text messages and viewing rich graphic content.
