i-mode Overview:

Japan’s NTT DoCoMo’s i-mode service, which enables users to access Internet services via their cellular phone, was launched in August of 1999.
NTT DoCoMo the world’s largest mobile-phone carrier with a market cap value of $263-billion (2001).
As of February 2002, the service had over 31 million subscribers, adding over 100,000 new subscribers every week.
Total of 25,100 content sites comprising of 1,100 official sites and 24,000 unofficial or voluntary sites.
Service transmitted over DoCoMo Packet Transmission Network (PDC-P or DoPa).
Voice Communication on DoCoMo Network (PDC).
