2000 - 35 (Oct. 2000) TECHNOLOGY Verizon Wireless and Allen Telecom Complete Wireless E911 Location Field Trial To meet the FCC’s stringent requirements for wireless E911 caller locations, wireless carriers have been seeking out state-of-the-art location technology. One player hoping to attract their attention is Allen Telecom Inc. Along with Verizon Wireless, Allen Telecom announced the successful completion of a large-scale CDMA field trial of its Geometrix™ E911 Wireless Location Solution. Geometrix System Trial
According to Allen Telecom, Verizon test trials were consistent with other trials verifying that the Geometrix system meets the FCC Phase II requirements for wireless E911 call location accuracy. The Geometrix system works not only with CDMA but also with TDMA, AMPS, and iDEN wireless air interfaces and supports a majority of wireless phones. Geometrix can also provide caller-locating support for a wide variety of location-based value-added services.
