Verizon Wireless and Allen Telecom Complete Wireless E911 Location Field Trial

To meet the FCC’s stringent requirements for wireless E911 caller locations, wireless carriers have been seeking out state-of-the-art location technology. One player hoping to attract their attention is Allen Telecom Inc. Along with Verizon Wireless, Allen Telecom announced the successful completion of a large-scale CDMA field trial of its Geometrix™ E911 Wireless Location Solution.

Geometrix System Trial

  • Verizon Wireless supervised and conducted the Geometrix trial, utilizing the standardized CDMA Development Group wireless E911 verification plan.
  • The trial covered an area of more than 1,000 square kilometers in and around Lexington, Kentucky.
  • The wireless provider conducted over 4,000 tests in 60 different calling scenarios covering various emergency conditions.
  • Trial tests and measurements included urban, suburban and rural environments.
  • Test calls used standard handsets.

According to Allen Telecom, Verizon test trials were consistent with other trials verifying that the Geometrix system meets the FCC Phase II requirements for wireless E911 call location accuracy.

The Geometrix system works not only with CDMA but also with TDMA, AMPS, and iDEN wireless air interfaces and supports a majority of wireless phones. Geometrix can also provide caller-locating support for a wide variety of location-based value-added services.
