Broadbeam and Sybase iAnywhere Solutions To Enable Wireless Messaging

In a mobile-centric enterprise the challenge becomes how to keep their mobile workers productive with relevant information, while, at the same time, limit the costs associated with connection times.

To address the issue, iAnywhere Solutions, Inc., a subsidiary of Sybase, Inc., has entered into a strategic agreement with Broadbeam Corporation to enable wireless messaging for m-business applications. Under the terms of the agreement, iAnywhere will license Broadbeam’s ExpressQ™ and SmartIP® wireless applications servers to be used with iAnywhere Solutions’ m-business technology platform. Broadbeam’s Smart IP provides interactive messaging capabilities while ExpressQ provides store-and-forward message queuing capabilities off-line.

The Problem
Many of the existing wireless applications require users to stay connected to a wireless network to access data, which overtime, results in high connections costs, slow application performance, and rapid battery and power consumption.

The All-in-one-Solution
Broadbeam’s wireless applications along with iAnywhere Solutions’ m-business technology platform, which includes iAnywhere Wireless Server and SQL Anywhere Studio, will enhance user productivity as workers will be able to do the following:

  • Work either on- or off-line thus always having access to corporate data
  • Store-and-forward features when outside of coverage area
  • Utilize the synchronization and messaging technologies to exchange data at anytime as well as minimizing the amount of data sent over the network

Benefits to All-in-one-Solution:

  • Mobile workers can access information and queue up transactions off-line
  • Reduce communications costs
  • Increase application and battery performance

The licensing agreement will allow iAnywhere Solutions to offer their customers a complete and comprehensive solution for developing and deploying m-business applications.

Mobileinfo Comments and Advisory: Broadbeam/IAnywhere agreement is a good strategic relationship because Broadbeam has, by far, one of the best experience base in multi-network support of wireless applications through their middleware - Smart IP. We think it was a good choice on the part of Sybase. Broadbeam will benefit from its endorsement from Sybase. Both companies offer wireless hosting services - we think that will not come in the way of their cooperation.
