Handspring Acquires Bluelark Systems for Faster Wireless Internet Access

In an effort to make Web browsing a basic application for its family of handheld computers, Handspring, Inc. has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire Bluelark Systems, Inc., a developer of technology that enables the delivery of Web content to wireless devices. Bluelark’s flagship products Blazer™ and BlueSky™, a Palm OS Web browser and proxy server, are designed to enable fast, seamless Internet access from handheld devices.

"With Bluelark’s software and infrastructure, Web browsing will become a key application for Handspring products, in the easy and elegant style that our customers are accustomed to," said Donna Dubinsky, president and CEO of Handspring.

Bluelarks Products

  • BlueSky is a customizable mobile application platform designed to provide a rich Internet experience via a wireless device. It optimizes content regardless of the source, HTML, WAP and cHTML, for viewing on a handheld device.
  • Blazer is client software for handheld devices that connects to the Internet, providing fast transport of Web content.
  • Blazer is ideal for viewing content on a color display such as the Handspring™ Visor Prism.

Handspring intends to bundle Blazer with its new VisorPhone™ product beginning in 2001.
