NEWS ACQUISITIONS, MERGERS & AGREEMENTS Vodafone Capping off a Year of Acquisitions Capping off what has been a year long massive acquisition campaign, Vodafone Group Plc has secured a 15 percent stake in Japan Telecom for $2.2-billion and acquired the Irish phone company Eircom’s mobile unit, Eircell, for $4.01-billion. These investments tops off a year in which the English phone company won the battle for Germany’s Mannesmann AG, a stake in U.S.-based Verizon Wireless, and a majority ownership in Spain’s Airtel SA, making it the dominant global player in the telecom industry.
