Certicom Launches PKI Solution To Link the Wired and Wireless Worlds

Realizing that enterprises are deploying applications with high sensitive data requiring the highest level of security, Certicom has announced the availability of Trustpoint™ a PKI solution that allows enterprise to build wireless certificate capabilities to enable secure communications and digital signatures via mobile devices.

"Unlike current PKI products, Trustpoint provides an open, standards-based security architecture that seamlessly integrates into any existing wired or wireless security infrastructure, said Bob Lonadier, director of Security Strategies with the Hurwitz Group.

Trustpoint Solution:

  • Incorporates Elliptic Curve Cryptography (ECC) as well as RSA, providing for fast authentication of certificates.
  • Trustpoint ensures interoperability with both legacy and next-generation PKI infrastructures.
  • Seamlessly manages both the wired and wireless components of the PKI system.
  • Its policy-editing features and ability to work with a variety of databases and directories provides the flexibility enabling organizations to tailor certificates management and publication to meet their specific needs.
  • Works in conjunction with Certicom’s Mobile Trust CA service.

Trustpoint Product Suite:

  • The Trustpoint Certificate Authority server provides a standards-based certificate issuance and management system for creating, issuing, publishing and revoking both wired and wireless public key certificates.
  • Trustpoint PKI portal (RA) acts as a central repository that co-ordinates the collection, evaluation, and integration of data from the sources such as employees, customers, and suppliers.
  • Trustpoint PKI Client is installed on the mobile device. It is used to communicate with existing registration and certificate authority components.

Mobileinfo Comments and Advisory:  Certicom is now providing more options for wireless security. Analysts should evaluate Certicom offerings to determine its suitability in their environment for their applications.  We encourage user organizations to look at security in a wholesome, end-to-end fashion and determine compatibility of wireless security with existing enterprise security architecture. It is not a good idea to take a short-sighted view of wireless security in isolation.
