Entrust Completes Interoperability Testing of its Security Certificates with WAP Gateway Offerings

Ensuring the security of e-commerce and communications in a wireless environment is a formidable task, which could, in the end, determine the success or failure of mobile commerce and the wireless Internet. In an effort to accelerate the development and adoption of both WAP and m-commerce, Entrust Technologies Inc. has been conducting interoperability testing of its WTLS (wireless transport layer security) certificate with solutions from mobile operators and with WAP servers solutions from Infinite, Motorola and Peramon.

The delivery of e-commerce solutions over the wireless Internet requires WAP gateways with proven WTLS certificate interoperability. Entrusts compliance with the offerings provided by these industry contributors delivers a worldwide WAP solution using WTLS standards, the company said.

Yvonne Verse, vice president and director of Data Solutions Platform Technology Group at Motorola, said mobile operators seeking a secure m-commerce solution might consider "Motorola’s WAP Server featuring a robust WTLS certificate interface that integrates with Entrust’s Certificate Authority systems, enabling seamless provisioning and management of Entrust WTLS certificates."

Peramon has also integrated WAP security into their entire mobile Internet offering, by providing WTLS class I and 2 security as standard, at no extra cost, the company said.

Mobileinfo Comments and Advisory: This is only an interim security solution - WAP must solve inherent security holes before it gains credibility in m-commerce world.
