F-Secure Introduces Instant Security Alerts

With sensitive corporate information being channeled through to a cornucopia of devices and systems, ensuring information is not exposed to security threats such as viruses or other forms of ‘malware’ is vital. To address these particular security issues, F-Secure Corporation has introduced F-Secure Radar that will broadcast instant alerts about viruses, denial of service attacks, and other security threats to a host of devices, including mobile phones, PDAs and pagers, regardless of the user’s location.

"Time is of the essence when notifying key individuals of critical security incidents, like virus alerts and denial of service attacks. During the past major outbreaks, like Melissa and LoveLetter, hours often meant the difference in saving millions in lost revenue," said Chris Vargas, president and chief executive officer of F-Secure.

Behind each alert is a host of anti-virus experts who make sure that the most critical security alerts are delivered instantly. Each alert is prioritized and delivered in a clear and precise message, enabling the user to take action to resolve the issues posed by the virus.

The Finnish company partnered with EnvoyWorldWide to provide the messaging functions via EnvoyXpress. F-Secure is using EnvoyProfiles, an enhancement to EnvoyXpress, that allows users to create and maintain their own contact information, while selecting which security notifications they require over the Internet through a browser interface.

The company recently reported that the testers and pre-release customers of the service were among the first computer users to be warned of the Melissa .W. worm, by way of an alert that stated," It now appears that this virus could become very widespread rapidly."
