Main Course Technologies’ PortaTrack To Manage Mobile Assets

Once predominately the domain of the military, Global Positioning System (GPS) tracking is now being made available to a host of organizations and individuals for everything from locating stolen equipment to locating children or the elderly. One company that is advancing the technology is Los Angeles-based Main Course Technologies which recently introduced PortaTrack, a Web-based tracking service utilizing GPS and wireless technologies.

PortaTrack allows dispatch, sales, and fleet managers to see the whereabouts of a piece of equipment, a vehicle, or a colleague on the screen of their mobile phone or PDA. For example, when tracking a vehicle, a fleet manager could view such particulars as

  • City, street, cross-street information,
  • Speed and direction of vehicle,
  • Both graphic maps and text reports of a vehicle’s travel history,
  • Real-time location of vehicle.

For the driver, PortaTrack’s road reports, such as traffic congestion, construction, and vehicle accidents, will keep them on schedule by helping to avoid traffic tie-ups.

"We have integrated our state-of-the-art database technology, GPS technology and Web and wireless devices to bring elegance and cost-effectiveness to mobile asset tracking," said Pat Coggins, Main Course Technologies’ co-founder and chief technology officer. "PortaTrack is what we call ‘device-agnostic,’ making it easy for individuals, small businesses, or corporations to leverage their existing infrastructure and investments," Coggins added.
