IBM Announces Enhancements to ThinkPads

IBM released new models of its existing line of notebooks, targeted at the small business.

Three new models in its notebook line were introduced: ThinkPad A21e essentials, the iSeries 1200, and iSeries 1300.

ThinkPad A21e essentials

  • Intel’s Celeron processors at either 650 MHz or 700 MHz
  • Hard drives ranging from 10 GB to 20 GB
  • CD-ROM or DVD drive
  • 64 MB or RAM, expandable to 256 MB
  • A modem and NIC come as ports in the laptop, with an option to integrate the two on a single card

Refurbished iSeries

  • iSeries 1300
  • Intel’s Celeron 650 MHz processor
  • 12.1-inch TFT display
  • 10 GB hard drive
  • 64 MB or RAM
  • 24x CD-ROM drive
  • 56 Kbps modem
  • Lithium ion battery
  • An 802.11b wireless LAN port
  • iSeries 1200 (without an 802.11b wireless LAN port)
  • 600 MHz Celeron processor
  • Integrated modem

The company said the iSeries 1300 is designed with the small business in mind. The 802.11b wireless LAN port will allow small businesses to create wireless networks easily and affordably.

Mobileinfo Comments and Advisory: It is interesting to see wireless LAN cards integrated into notebooks.  It is high time that vendors like IBM and Toshiba did that.
