LogicTree Unveils Voice Enabled E-Mail Access

LogicTree Corporation has released its VoxMail™ solution for providing voice access to e-mail via any phone.

With VoxMail, mobile professionals can leave their laptop at the office. By simply dialing a designated phone number, they can access and manage their POP3 e-mail accounts, while e-mail messages are read to them by way of a Text-to-Speech (TTS) engine.

VoxMail is targeted at the ISP as a value-added e-mail service, promising to reduce churn and generate additional revenue, anywhere from $1,500 to $5,000 per month, the company said. Furthermore, the VoxMail solution can be integrated into an ISP’s offering with no infrastructure or equipment upgrades.

With VoxMail, the ISP subscriber can perform the following functions:

  • Register two different POP3 e-mail accounts.
  • Create a personalized Contact Book.
  • Compose new messages to send to contacts listed in their Contact Book.
  • Browse unread messages and highlight those to be read.
  • Skip messages.
  • Send voice replies to any message.
  • "Barge-in" or interrupt readings and move ahead to other selections.
  • Pause a message being read.

LogicTree’s solution will enable ISPs to insert customized audio prompts into the voice interface as well as customize the Registration Page with their logo.

VoxMail is one in a series of voice access applications that LogicTree plans to release, and it wouldn’t be a moment too soon, as the tiny screens and difficult keyboards of cellphones are taxing most users’ patience.

Mobileinfo Comments and Advisory: VoxMail is an alternate way of accessing e-mail - it will not replace conventional text-based e-mail on PDAs, Palm OS devices, RIM Blackberry and similar devices..
