NEWS ACQUISITIONS, MERGERS & AGREEMENTS National Semiconductor to Acquire InnoCOMM, Wireless Chip Designer National Semiconductor Corp. has agreed to buy chipset developer InnoCOMM wireless for about $13-million in a move to strengthen its position in the next generation of wireless networking technologies.InnoCOMM’s expertise in wireless networking technologies encompasses a broad spectrum from short-range wireless technologies such as Bluetooth and Home RF to wireless LAN based in the IEEE 802.11 standard. Recently, the company made the news with its single-chip Bluetooth radio transceiver based on CMOS technology, promising to lower power consumption and reduce costs. InnoCOMM’s expertise and reputation in wireless networking technologies is seen as an opportunity for National to enhance its next generation of wireless technologies, such as Bluetooth baseband technology, the company said. The point was further emphasized by William Stacy, vice president of National’s Wireless Group, "InnoCOMM’s Bluetooth radio transceiver, combined with National’s Bluetooth baseband technology, will quickly lead to a complete single-chip Bluetooth solution."
