Oracle Updates Wireless Application Server

Oracle Corp. has rolled out an enhanced version of Oracle9i™ Application Server (Oracle9iAS) Wireless Edition with a host of new features to take advantage of the emerging personalized and location-based market.

"Oracle9iAS Wireless Edition places Oracle in the unique position of providing a simple and complete platform for developing and deploying personalized wireless Internet content, applications, and services, so customers can truly conduct business on the go," said Denise Lahey, CEO of OracleMobile.

Overview of the New Features of Oracle9iAS Wireless Edition

  • Personalization Alert Management
  • Create new alerts and set customized parameters for device-specific alerts
  • Create and edit accessed landmarks such as home or office. Landmarks are used as reference points so that content is delivered based on the user’s current location.
  • Content Management Wireless Portal Creation and Management
  • Create branded wireless portals.
  • Portals can be customized and personalized with book marking functions.
  • Messaging Engine
  • Push alerts and notifications to devices via e-mail, SMS, and WAP.
  • Location-Based Services Geocoding
  • Utilize new wireless geocoding capabilities, based on Oracle’s Spatial technology, to track the location of mobile devices.
  • Geocoding capabilities enable the creation of co-ordinates for street addresses, routing for mapping and directions, and the distance between two locations for Yellow Page applications.
