Motorola Delivers Mobile Office Solution

Among a host of wireless Internet initiatives that Motorola announced at the 3GSM World Conference in Cannes, France was its Mobile Office Solution for the mobile professional.

Using the Mobile Office Solution, mobile workers equipped with either a Motorola Timeport 260 phone or any WAP and SMS-enabled device can easily access their existing corporate e-mail, Calendars, and Address Books.

Commenting on the benefits of the new release, Ed Sadowski, senior director and general manager, Internet Software and Content Group at Motorola, said," The solution is easy to use and install and offers secure communications; it is a valuable tool for the enterprise and a great application for a service provider to offer most valuable customers."

The solution comprises of interchangeable components, which can be integrated in most enterprise systems, thus allowing each enterprise to install only those needed to meet their requirements.

  • Secure WAP Gateway connects WAP phones via the Internet to the corporate intranet, supporting all Web servers and all WAP microbrowsers.
  • E-Mail Connector connects with Microsoft Exchange, all IMP4 and POP3 e-mail servers, and will support the upcoming release of Lotus Notes.
  • SMS Server provides automatic notification of received e-mail.
  • Calendar Connector’s user interface presents calendar entries in an easy-to-read format and allows the user to navigate the entries with minimum keystrokes.
  • WAP Site Search Server allows users to enter a search word or phrase to search any WAP site.
  • Internet Newsgroup Connector allows users to exchange information among corporate work groups or teams.
