NEWS TECHNOLOGY Sonera Partners with Intel to Accelerate Development of Wireless Apps In a move to accelerate the development of applications and services for the next generation Internet-enabled phones, Sonera Corp. announced that it has endorsed Intel Corp.’s Personal Internet Client Architecture (PCA).Intel’s architecture is designed as an open blueprint for developers of wireless services, enabling easier integration of applications and Internet services among a host of wireless standards and devices. "This is vitally important to accelerate the growth of wireless Internet usage among customers worldwide," said Ron Smith, senior vice president and general manager of Intel’s Wireless Computing and Communications Group. To further facilitate the development of the next generation of applications, Helsinki-based Sonera, and California-based Intel have entered into an agreement to jointly invest in companies with technologies that are committed to the development of Internet applications for wireless devices. Companies that support open platforms and interoperable technology solutions will be highly recognized, Sonera said. Funding will be filtered through the companies’ investment divisions: Sonera Venture Capital and the Intel Communications Fund.
