Ericsson Releases High-End, High-Performance Phones

Recognizing that there is little evidence that catering to the ‘global customer’ or designing ‘one product that fits all,’ attracts a global audience, Ericsson has introduced two high-end mobile phones designed to meet the regional needs of the user: The language-oriented T29 for the Asian market and the GPRS-enabled R520M to the American market.

T29 Mobile Phone
The T29 mobile phone is designed for the Asian market, with key features such as Asian languages, including Bahasa Malayu, Bahasa Indonesia, Thai and Vietnamese as well as English. For the Chinese user, the phone offers a complete Chinese interface, which makes it possible for the users to send and receive SMS in their native language.

Other Features

  • Dual-band phone
  • Supports SMS and group-SMS text messaging
  • WAP browser (WAP 1.1) to access the Internet
  • Weighs 95 grams
  • Slim battery
  • Standby time of 150 hours and talk time of seven hours

The Swedish phone manufacturer says the T29 fits seamlessly with Ericsson accessories, including Bluetooth headset, FM radio, and Chatboard, and car holder.

R520M Mobile Phone
With U.S. carriers like AT&T Wireless, Cingular and VoiceStream now testing GPRS wireless standard, Ericsson has taken the opportunity to preview its mobile R520M phone that supports 2.5G standard. This high-end phone will be sold by AT&T Wireless in selected regions in April when the wireless carrier intends to roll out its GPRS service.

Previewed at the Internet World Wireless, the phone promises users faster wireless access to the Internet and the ability to take advantage of a host of new data-intensive wireless applications.

Features of R520M

  • GPRS support, speeds up to 56 kbps
  • Built-in Bluetooth connectivity
  • Six-line grayscale display screen
  • Full-function PDA
  • Limited voice recognition
  • Ericsson’s proprietary OS
  • Lithium ion battery
  • Standby time of 150 hours
