Infineon Announces Design Platform for Bluetooth-enabled GSM/GPRS Wireless Phones

Infineon Technologies, along with its subsidiaries Danish Wireless Design and Comneon, will be offering cell phone manufacturers an integrated system development platform, System Platform 2000. The new system platform includes the necessary chipset and firmware for GSM/GPRS products with Bluetooth connectivity.

Components of the System Platform 2000

  • Incorporates Comneon’s GPRS protocol software
  • Based on Infineon chip solutions
  • The E-GOLD+ single-chip baseband controller
  • SMARTi+ single chip RF transceiver
  • E-power power management integrated circuit
  • CMG20G power amplifier module
  • Bluetooth interface is based on Infineon’s Bluemoon 1

"In collaboration with our subsidiaries, we are facilitating the fast and reliable implementation of GSM and/or GPRS projects by our system customers who can then concentrate more on specific product diversification," said Guenter Weinberger, senior vice president of Infineon’s Wireless Group.

Three versions of the system platform will be made available.

  • 900/1800-MHz dual-band transceiver configuration for the European and Asian markets
  • Equivalent 900/1900 MHz dual-band configuration for the U.S. market
  • 900/1800/1900-MHz triple-band solution for the global market

Manufacturers can expect to begin implementation of the platform in the fourth quarter of this year.

Mobileinfo Comments and Advisory: Yet another handset development platform!  Since Bluetooth is an incremental technology, the base should stay the same.
