"We believe the trend towards thin and light, ultra mobile will only continue over time. We have redefined what we are doing for mobile microprocessors and chipsets," said Paul Otellini of Intel. in his keynote address at the Forum. For example, Intel will have 1GHz in production this quarter and the first Intel .13-micron processors will be mobile microprocessors, which will be delivered in the second quarter of this year, Mr. Otellini said. In addition, he said, the first Pentium® 4 notebook microprocessor will be rolled out, probably, next year.

The Low Voltage mobile Pentium III processor 700 MHz
Extending its line of the low-voltage mobile Pentium® III processors that it brought out last October, Intel demonstrated a 700 MHz version of the Pentium III chip featuring Intel SpeedStep technology. Designed for laptops weighing fewer than three pounds, the chip delivers the high-performance, lowest power consumption and extended battery life. The chip is available immediately.

Wireless Web Tablet
Intel also publicly disclosed key technical features of the wireless Intel Web Tablet. Introduced first as a prototype at the January Consumer Electronics Show, the Web Tablet is described as a lightweight, high-performance device that extends the value of the PC, such as those based on the Intel Pentium 4 processor. In essence, the Web Tablet will enable consumers to take the Web from the spare bedroom to the kitchen, family room or backyard, said Michael Reed, director of Marketing at Intel.

The Web Tablet is powered by Intel’s StrongARM SA-1110 processors and StrataFlash™ memory and uses Wind River’s VxWorks real-time OS and Personal Jworks; the Espial Escape embedded browser and Espial Espresso Graphical User Interface component tool kit; and BeComm’s Strings software for rich audio.

Intel expects to make the device available some time this year.
