LXE Announces 2.4 GHz Technology Network Installation at Hong Kong’s Largest Port

Mobile logistics solution provider LXE Inc. has announced what it claims to be the largest 2.4 GHZ technology network of its kind at Modern Terminals Limited, Kwai Chung Port, in Hong Kong. The RF installation covers 199.4 acres, which houses five main berths and one feeder berth at Kwai Chung Port Container Terminals as well as a 12-story warehouse and container freight station.

This outside wireless LAN gives Modern Terminals the flexibility and the bandwidth it needs to ensure reliable and secure 24-hour non-stop operations, LXE said

Components of LXE’s Mobile Logistics Solution

  • LXE® 1380 Series vehicle-mounted computers for use on all its rubbers-tyred gantry cranes and quay cranes.
  • LXE® MX3 handheld mobile rugged computer for use in quayside gatehouse, container yard, and mobile vehicles.
  • LXE 6521 Series Access Points are installed at all strategic locations, covering the entire operation facility.
  • 2.4 GHz LXE Spire Antenna LAN provides redundant coverage of the access points.

Dick Sorenson, senior product manager of Backbone & Connectivity Products at LXE, said, "This system’s use of direct sequence spread spectrum (DSSS) transmission in the 2.4 GHz waveband conforms to the latest IEEE 802.11b standard, and it provides the level of security and reliability required by these ports projects."

The Hong Kong company said that LXE’s mobile computer equipment and 2.4 GHz technology will be extended to its new Container Terminal 9, when it is completed sometime in 2004. Thomson Ho, Modern Terminals’ IT manager, added, "We are also considering deploying this technology in our inter-building connectivity."
