Psion and impatica Add PowerPoint to Symbian-enabled Devices

Leveraging the reputation of Microsoft PowerPoint® as the software of choice for those conducting corporate training and business presentations, Psion and impatica have joined forces to add the same presentation capabilities to a host of Psion’s devices.

Impatica will enable PowerPoint to be run on Psion’s line of mobile e-business devices–netBook, Revo, Series 7, and Series 5mx–by converting the presentation into a Java applet that can be viewed with the device’s Web browser, the handheld manufacturer said.

With Psion’s handheld computer running PowerPoint, an employee at a trade show can give a product demonstration on the stop to attendees or a remote worker can be kept up to-date with HR training tools. The companies said that the impatica file supports the core features of PowerPoint such as narration, animation, and interactivity. Using the netBook and Series 7, employees can take advantage of a full-color screen and optional adaptors for front-end display equipment.

Impatica’ PowerPoint offers off-line or on-line access to presentations. For example the unpracticed presentation can be stored and accessed locally on the device while a polished presentation can run over the Internet. "By streaming content over the Internet we are enabling users to deliver presentations directly from their Psion computing device, and to send the files [as an embedded link in an e–mail message] to colleagues, delegates or customers in an easy-to-run format. The flexibility to access any presentation, within seconds from any locations is an invaluable asset for today’s mobile users," said Greg Sleater, director of EP-one PLC, distributor of impatica in Europe.
