VeriSign Unveils Expansive M-Payment Services to Accelerate M-Commerce

Leveraging the reputation of its Internet payment platform, VeriSign, Inc. has introduced a new range of wireless payment services. The platform is designed to meet the needs of those on-line merchants, carriers, and financial institutions who are looking to offer their customers a wireless service.

"Now, the 15,000 merchants, buyers, and suppliers currently using our ‘wired’ Internet payment services–along with new customers looking to payment-enable their mobile sales forces–will be able to leverage our utility-like infrastructure to process transactions seamlessly over mobile networks," said Stratton Sclavos, president and CEO of VeriSign.

The company said the platform is capable of connecting to every major payment network and can process a host of payment methods from credit and debit cards to Internet checks to automated clearing house transactions.

Components of the Wireless Payment Services

  • Managed Wireless Payments Gateway allows e-tailers to process payments from a WAP server through VeriSign’s wireless version of Payflow Pro software development kit.
  • Network-based Profile Management enables end users to manage their account and payment details, including name, bill-to address, ship-to address, payment types, account numbers, which are securely stored by VeriSign. This feature eliminates the need for users to re-enter confidential information for each purchase. Users can also utilize digital certificates and digital signatures for secure and trusted wireless transactions.
  • Wireless Point of Sales (WPOS) services allows mobile sales forces, delivery persons, and other field workers to use their handheld devices as virtual payment terminals.

VeriSign’s on-line customers can expect availability of the Wireless Payflow Pro SDK and Wireless POS solutions during the second quarter of this year.
