Hypercom Selects Apriva to Provide Wireless Capabilities to POS Device

To meet the demands of the retail sector for faster and more secure and virtually anytime and anywhere payment capabilities and services, Hypercom Corporation has selected wireless ASP Apriva, Inc. to provide wireless applications and connectivity for Hypercom’s wireless card payment terminal, the epicä ICEä 4000.

The ICE 4000 Handheld card payment terminal coupled with Apriva’s wireless communications gateway integrates mobility, technology and real-time transacting processing to deliver high-effective and secure wireless card payment functions including credit, debit and smart cards, said Chris Spinell, chairman and CEO of Apriva.

The Apriva wireless gateway service, which provides the transport and back-office integration architecture, complements Hypercom’s epicportza security and gateway server software, Hypercom said.

For merchants and service providers, from car rental companies to restaurants, the combined solution will enable them to service their customers quickly and efficiently from virtually anywhere.

Features of the wireless card payment terminal: ICE 4000

  • Touch screen-based Internet-enabled device, incorporating firewall-protected multi-application OS
  • EMV chip card capability
  • Secure PIN pad
  • Built-in HTML/HTTP Web browser
  • Integrated receipt printer
  • Embedded applications such as e-signature and receipt capture, e-mail and interactive e-coupons
  • Supports a variety of wireless WAN technologies, including GSM, CDPD and Mobitex, and 900 MHz
  • Supports wireline modem incorporating Hypercom 9600 FastPOS technology and LAN interface

The ICE 4000 offers flexibility as it can be worn or carried by users, or it can be wall-powered for stationary use.
