Mission Associates’ Intranet Polling Software Transforms Use of Blackberry

RIM’s Blackberry with the help of Mission Associates of Houston, Texas may be shedding its reputation as a 2-way e-mail messenger and attaining the status as a true mobile application device. With Mission Associates’ latest intranet-based server product, mQuery™, BlackBerry handhelds will promise to deliver ‘Mobile Executive Dashboard’ information directly from the company’s intranet or Internet site, without having to launch a micro-web browser.

Now, corporate executives with BlackBerry in hand can retrieve and poll their company intranet for the latest sales volume, production data, trading data, trading prices, employee’s phone extensions, and other critical information. The Texan-based company says that its patent-pending Intelligent Accent sits within a company’s network, thus making it easy for executives to securely request the AGENT to seek, find, and retrieve important data in a timely fashion.

According to Marcus Truss, Mission’s CTO, mQuery’s intelligent server agent actively monitors user polling requests, queries the intranet, formats the data, validates the user, and sends back a complete report usually within 15 seconds."

It will remain to be seen if the mQuery will not only transform the BlackBerry, but also generate a paradigm shift away from ‘browsing’ the web for information towards requesting or polling the Web for data.

Mobileinfo Comments and Advisory: This puts Blackberry in the midst of head-to-head competition with PalmOS and PocketPC devices. Blackberry does have an advantage in always-on and secure communication. Putting more muscle (megahertz and megabytes) horsepower) in Blackberry is an easier problem to solve.
