724 Solutions Unveils Wireless Internet Platform 3.0

In response to a market that is moving toward mass deployment of wireless applications while users are demanding highly intuitive interfaces, 724 Solutions Inc. has released its Wireless Internet Platform 3.0 that promises to support high-volumes of m-transactions while leveraging emerging technologies to enrich the user’s experience.

Commenting on the features of the new version, Peter Klante, general manager of 724 Solutions, said, "Our Wireless Internet Platform is a robust foundation for building mobile commerce services that can support up to 10 million users simultaneously. Using this secure, highly scalable platform with integrated voice features and advanced messaging capabilities, businesses can customize content for each customer, providing any easy and flexible transaction experience."

Besides offering the existing platform features such as multiple protocol support and content conversion, the new features of the Wireless Internet Platform further extend a company’s mobile channel, the company said.

Additional Features

  • Advanced Notification Engine sends messages to users via SMS, WAP Push, and wireless e-mail. SMS allows two-way messaging and delivery confirmation while WAP Push allows for the incorporation of links and graphics in the message.
  • Voice Interface extends the platform to voice via speech recognition, voice authentication and Voice XML development tools, with 15 international languages.
  • Transcoding Tools convert HTML Web sites to WML for rapid prototyping of wireless sites.
  • HP OpenView Smart Plug-in enables management of platform through Hewlett-Packard’s enterprise system management environment.
  • Secure Browsers for PDAs provides the end-to-end security for wireless transactions with Palm, RIM, and PocketPC devices.

Mobileinfo Comments and Advisory: We like 724's implementation of Wireless Internet platform. It has expanded the functionality from older versions 1 and 2. It has hit the most important concerns of the enterprise - end-to-end security and plugging into enterprise management. Voice interface is also attractive. Serious enterprise IT practitioners should put 724 Solutions in their short list of vendors. To 724, we say - keep your solution open. Go beyond HP OpenView into IBM's Tivoli and CA's Unicenter TNG. Also start concentrating on performance and scalability issues. Build your own transcoding code but allow customers to use other technologies like IBM's WebSphere. Finally, stay with your vertical industry domain expertise before becoming a general purpose mobile computing/wireless systems integrator. After succeeding in the financial industry, go into other industries gradually  - one at a time.
