Florida Police Agency Turns to HTE Accident Reporting Software

When looking to improve the efficiency of its police force, The City of Fort Walton Beach, Florida turned to HTE, Inc., based in Orlando, Florida, to deploy its Field Accident Reporting Software. The City police officers will now be able to generate paperless reports at the scene of an accident, saving a tremendous amount of time, said Dominick Fiorentino, management information services director for the City.

HTE’s Field Accident Reporting Software

  • Officers will have access to a database of pre-drawn maps of over 40 intersections in the Fort Walton Beach area where accidents frequently occur, thus eliminating the need for hand-drawn maps of the crash site.
  • Pull-down menus and narrative text make it easy for officers to report all pertinent information about the accident.
  • A complete report, identical to the State form, can be transmitted from the police car to headquarters instantly for printing.
  • Printed documents can be then made available to drivers, insurance companies, and the Florida Department of Highway Safety & Motor Vehicles.

Commenting on the benefits of the application, Mr. Fiorentino said, "Motorist and officers can look forward to spending less time at accident scenes and more accurate reporting."

The Floridian wireless company said that training and installation of Field Accident Reporting took place in November and December, and the system went live in February.

Mobileinfo Comments and Advisory: It is interesting to note that automated accident reporting application was feasible for several years but has become affordable now. What can we learn? That it does take finite number of years for applications to become mainstream!  We would see more public safety agencies to implement automated report writing and accident reporting applications during the next several years. Public safety application implementers should hurry. HTE has good expertise in public safety.
