Motorola Smart Phones i90 and i80 Added to Java Family of Phones

Joining the Motorola’s growing family of Java-based phones are the i90c and i80s, which will enable users to download applications from wireless operators for that personal touch. Both phones will be available through Nextel Communications and Southern LINC in the U.S. and Telus Mobility in Canada.

Both phones are packed with similar features yet distinctive in design — the Motorola i90c model is a compact flip-phone while the i80s is a sleek, ultra-thin silver handset.

These can become a mobile office, Motorola said, making them ideal for the mobile professional. Using Java technology, the Motorola i90c and i80s handsets allow users to download and run a host of applications from business programs, including corporate e-mail, database and directory access, to productivity tools, such as a dictionary and unit converter, to entertainment and games, for those down times.

Motorola’s vice-president Peter Aloumanis describes the new handsets as "high performance devices." He says, "Users can schedule a meeting, access their corporate e-mail, track their expenses, host a conference call on the speakerphone, and check flight status, all in a single handset."

Features of Motorola i90c and i80s

  • Hands-free speakerphone, voice-activated dialing, and voice recorder
  • Two-way radio function allow users to contact one or 100 colleagues instantly
  • Phonebook, for storing up to 250 entries
  • Customizable style settings, which enables the phone to adapt to the user’s environment

Mobileinfo Comments & Advisory: Java is becoming a standard option on all new breed of cellular phones. Motorola was among the first few vendors to vote for Java.
