MapInfo Unveils PSAP Pro to Provide Telecoms with Accurate E911 Solution

With the implementation of the FCC’s Enhanced 911 (E911) Phase II mandate fast approaching, MapInfo Corporation has teamed up with Public Safety Associates, Inc. (PSA) to release PSAP Pro that will enable wireless telecommunications service providers to meet the FCC requirements for accurately locating emergency callers and delivering the appropriate services.

PSAP Pro is an E911 database promising to accurately and efficiently route emergency calls to the appropriate Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) to dispatch emergency personnel to the caller’s location.

MapInfo PSAP Pro contains the following:

  • PSAP information for the U.S., including
  • 10-digit emergency numbers
  • Address information
  • Administrative phone number
  • Fax number
  • Contact person
  • Latitude and longitude
  • Jurisdictional boundaries
  • Approximately 4,400 records including both primary PSAPs and sheriff’s departments and offices in areas not served by a PSAP.

MapInfo telecommunications researchers verify all PSAP data and boundaries and add new and updated information on a regular basis by working with PSAPs, the company said.

With PSAP Pro, wireless and telecommunications service providers [can] ensure mobile customers a timely response to emergency needs, be it nationally or locally," said Michael Hickey, executive vice president, worldwide sales and marketing at MapInfo. "This E911 database not only pinpoints the caller’s location but locates the caller’s most appropriate PSAP, resulting in a more rapid emergency response."

MapInfo PSAP Pro will be available later this month.
